Design your first pass in ten minutes

You don’t need a designer or a developer. The Pass Designer walks you through six steps with a live Apple and Google preview the whole way.

Open the Pass Designer in a new tab and follow along. Your draft saves automatically as you go, so you can step away and come back to exactly where you left off, even without an account.

Step 1: Pick a template

Start from a category that matches what you run: a points card for a café, a stamp card for a bakery, a membership for a gym, an offer for a promotion. The template pre-fills sensible fields and styling so you’re never staring at a blank canvas.

Don’t overthink the template. Everything it sets can be changed later.

Step 2: Add your brand

Upload your logo and a square icon. The designer pulls your brand colors from the logo and applies them to the pass background, text, and labels all at once. Tweak them if you like, or accept the suggestion.

The preview pane renders the pass exactly as it will appear in Apple Wallet and Google Wallet, updating live as you change anything.

Step 3: Set your fields

Decide what shows on the pass: a points balance, a stamp grid, the points left to the next reward, an offer percentage. Keep it glanceable, because the best passes answer “where am I?” in under a second.

Step 4: Choose a barcode

Pick QR, PDF417, Aztec, or Code 128. The default QR is right for most programs. The barcode encodes the member’s short code, the Member ID customers see and your scanner reads, so staff can look up members instantly at the till.

Step 5: Notifications and location (optional)

Add location-aware offers that surface on iPhone when a customer is near your store, or set up the messages they’ll receive when rewards update. This step is optional, so you can leave the defaults and come back to it.

Step 6: Publish and share

Publish the program to get a public enrollment page and a QR code. Print the QR on a poster, a table tent, or a receipt. The first time someone scans it, they add your pass to their wallet in one tap.

scan QR → enroll page → add to Apple/Google Wallet → live pass

Make it live, then improve

The fastest path to a great pass is to publish something, watch how customers use it, and refine. Because updates push live to every installed pass, you can tweak copy or add a field later without re-issuing anything.

  • Keep one big number visible: points or stamps.
  • Match the pass color to your signage so it feels like yours.
  • Use the QR on the pass as the scan target at the till.

That’s it. From sign-up to a pass customers can add in roughly the time it takes to make a flat white.
